Stock Analysis Software

Market Fundamentals

Stock Analysis Software - Looking for list of stocks to day trade? Here's a quick review of some fundamental analysis programs that can generate a list of equities to trade.

Some stock day traders use price-action only. Others mix in a bit of volume. Most probably trade off of price charts that include technical analysis indicators. Some of you are going to want to incorporate stock analysis software specifically for fundamental analysis into your day trading plan.

What do I mean? Well, I think it's a reasonable approach during a bull market or side-ways market phase, to make long-side trades off a list of stocks that are not only trending up, but also rank well fundamentally. This is assuming one is using price action and/or technical analysis methods to assist in entries and exits.

I'm not referring to deep, in-depth fundamental research on individual stocks.

I'm suggesting that some of you might be comfortable trading off a list of stocks that have been screened for at least high Earnings Per Share (EPS), possibly high industry/sector ranking and definitely high Relative Strength (RS).

At the very least, this could assure that you are day trading stocks that are in an up trend, at least on a daily time frame. However, don't be fooled thinking that only day trading stocks that have high EPS and RS and strongly trending higher on a daily chart will assure success. It won't.

The stock in the chart above currently has a good EPS and RS rank, and it's trending strongly upward as well. But obviously, like any other stock it has it's retracement days too. Long entry trades on those kind of days may not go so well.

My point is, stock analysis software like below can assist you in finding stocks to trade for the day, like a gainers or gapper list, except from a fundamental analysis and relative strength standpoint. Generally, this type of approach is more favorable for swing trading rather than day trading, however just because I don't favor this approach, doesn't mean others won't find value in it.

Here's a list of sites you can check out:

  • StockTables
  • Screenshot of StockTables website Stocktables is an inexpensive, simple web based browser program that can quickly find stocks with your desired EPS, RS, Industry Sector, PE or Vol% rank. All data is updated daily.

If you need a list of stocks that are trending up on a daily chart, this is a good place to find them.

  • IBD eTables
  • Screenshot of IBD etables Investor's Business Daily (IBD) originally came up with ranking of stocks according to EPS and RS in their newspaper many years ago. Now they also have the easy to use IBD eTables that allows you to find stocks ranked high using their proprietary Composite Rating.

It also gives you the 'IBD 100' -- a list of top rated growth stocks. Another great source of stocks trending higher on a daily time frame.

  • VectorVest
  • screenshot of vectorvest This stock analysis software has a lot of features, and might give a bit too much info for a day trader, and possibly better suited to a longer term position trader.

Those of you that aren't quite sure if day trading is for you, and are maybe considering longer term trading. You might find it useful. Take a look and see if it fits your requirements.

  • Zignals
  • screenshot of zignals, free stock analysis software, Zignals has a free fundamentals stock screener, that can automatically send you the results of scan by emails. They also allow for forward projections in addition to historical fundamentals.

Useful for your day trading? I'll let you be the judge of that.

I'll also mention that Yahoo Finance, Morningstar and MSN have free fundamentals screeners, but after using a some of the above programs, you won't want to bother with them.
